Psychophysiological Benefits of Tomato PEEL AND SEED Extract in Skincare

Dr. Rachida Nachat-Kappes, founder of InnovSkin, in collaboration with Professor Edith Filaire and Dr. Leila Falcao, has recently published groundbreaking research in the journal Cosmetics.

The study, titled “In and out Beauty and Sensitive Skin, a Psychophysiological Exploration: Myth or Reality?”, delves into the potential benefits of Tomato Peel and Seed Extract (TPSE) for sensitive skin.

Anti-Inflammatory and Soothing Properties

TPSE demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory properties. Ex vivo tests showed that TPSE at 0.5% concentration reduced the release of Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide (CGRP) by 53%, and increased the release of Interleukin-10 (IL-10) by 12.5%, showcasing its soothing effects on sensitive skin.

Enhanced Skin Barrier

The study found that TPSE increased the expression of Caspase 14, a protein crucial for maintaining the skin barrier, by 27%. This suggests that TPSE helps strengthen the skin’s defense against external irritants.

Psychophysiological Benefits

The in vivo study revealed that using a face cream containing TPSE at 0.5% for 28 days significantly improved skin homogeneity and reduced erythrosis (redness).

Participants also showed lower levels of salivary cortisol, indicating reduced stress, and higher levels of DHEA, which is associated with positive emotions and lower anxiety.

Positive Emotional Impact

Participants reported an 18% increase in pleasant emotions after using a face cream containing TPSE at 0.5% for 28 days compared to a placebo.

This shows that by improving the condition of their sensitive skin, volunteers also experience an overall enhancement in their well-being.

conclusion

Thanks to this unique collaboration, we have, for the first time, demonstrated through a psychobiological approach the dual benefits of improved skin health and overall well-being for individuals suffering from sensitive skin.

Sensitive skin, characterized by unpleasant sensations such as stinging and itching, can significantly impact the quality of life.

Our approach has proven to be highly relevant, showing not only the powerful and beneficial effects of a tomato peel and seed extract (TPSE) on skin health but also on general well-being.
